My documentary photography project just got a big boost from Seth Godin's Akimbo podcast!
Let me explain. At the beginning of each episode there is a "word from a sponsor" audio ad. Last year, Akimbo started accepting listener-submitted "ads" for non-commercial or nonprofit ventures for individuals and organizations. They do this for no charge.
In February, I decided to submit one for my Cross Country Camera documentary project. Even though it's just a 30 second spot, it took me forever to write and record it. The call to action is for people to nominate artists or themselves as subjects for the project.
I submitted it in March and held my breath. On April 6, it went live on "The Modern Lemonade Stand" episode. Within minutes I started getting nominations and inquiries from all over the USA. You can hear the ad for yourself at the 0:25 mark just after the intro of the episode.
These unexpected connections and intersections in life are remarkable and really make a difference. The project was already moving along nicely but this extra tailwind is now helping me in ways that I never imagined.
Thank you Seth Godin!
