Artist’s Statement:
Growing up I have always had a passion for art and the creative process. This became difficult when I was faced with the reality of losing my vision in the early stages of developing my craft. I chose to not give up. What seemed like such a devastating roadblock for an artist actually helped to build a solid foundation for my artistic career.
My love of art and my struggle with vision are so closely related. I don’t think I would have the appreciation for art, for the attention to detail, for the ability to make fine lines or blurred images, without my vision struggle. My vision struggle taught me so much about life, about not wasting a second, about the lessons you learn when you lose. Taking time to appreciate every aspect of our daily lives and how those typically overlooked details can now create the inspiration for beautiful artwork.
I continue to create and never give up. I can now find peace and beauty in painting a blurry, out of focus scene much like what my vision used to look like at a difficult dark time in my life. I continue to create and continue to never give up.
