Artist's Statement:
In understanding how our brain sees, we must consider the Gestalt effect. This refers to the form-forming capability of our senses, particularly with respect to the visual recognition of figures and whole forms. There is a visual margin of threshold between recognition and abstraction that I decided to investigate. Because the Gestalt effect is dependent on viewer subjectivity, this margin could be manipulated by the artist. Although my paintings are purely abstract, they pique the brain for sensible organization and dangle the viewer eye just above a subjective reality. With minimal usage of softened forms, my painting style seemingly alludes to ethereal landscape environments.
