Artist's Statement:
I seek possibility in my work. I have a wild imagination. I am drawn to the enigmas that nature offers us. Whether it is an alluring burst of light on a far horizon, or a deep shadow in a face sinking in dreamscapes, here is the provocation of the work. Mystery of what is sensed, but not known, draws me on. My artistic journey has become a freeing and illuminating pursuit. Moods play out their colors, and shift through my pieces. I continue to chase what first fascinated me in the subject, and repeat and develop an entire series as I imagine a new aspect in each piece. It is an odyssey of my zest to discover and capture. But even in captivity, these discoveries possess a life of their own. So, I allow the work to do its thing. I am merely a conduit, philosopher and instrument working the brush. I lament the loss of harmony in our world, and my work brings through civilization: ancient and technological. I see pattern through the ages and that emerges in the pieces I create. I embrace all extremities of self: bold point-of-view and naked vulnerability. We all have hope, dreams and memories. I have lived and traveled all over the world, and those impressions fly out through my canvases. I work primarily with oils, and love the honesty of deep saturated hues. What happens at the meniscus of the interaction of color and light play blows my mind. Give me intensity, color, aspect, composition and I fly. I am an escape artist. Discovery and liberation is the order of each day in the studio. Perfection is fleeting: imperfection is truth. Like it, or not, here we are in life’s duality.
